1. Open your Network Preferences window
(To do this, click on the Apple menu, choose
"Location", and then choose "Network
Preferences".)
2. Select the TCP/IP tab.
In the TCP/IP window, make sure that "Configure" is
set to "Using PPP".
"Domain Name Servers" and "Search Domains"
should be left blank.
3. Select the PPP tab.
Enter "ArdenNet" for service provider
Enter the phone number from your ArdenNet
Info sheet.*note: If you have call waiting, you should
enter "*70," before the phone number to disable call
waiting while you are on the Internet.
"Alternate Number" can be left blank.
In the Account Name box, enter your
"Network Login" (not your "E-mail") from your
ArdenNet Info sheet.
(All letters in the Network Login are lowercase, and Network
Logins cannot contain spaces.) In the Password box,
enter your "Network Password" (not your "E-mail
Password") from your ArdenNet Info sheet. (Note that
ArdenNet passwords are case sensitive and contain no spaces or dots;
enter your password,
using capitals and small letters, exactly as it on your ArdenNet Info
sheet).
Put a check in the "Save Password"
checkbox.
4. Select the Proxies tab
Make sure that nothing is selected in this window.
5. Select the Modem tab
In the "Modem" box, choose your modem from the popup
menu that appears when you click on the
modem selection.
Put a check in the "Wait for dial tone before
dialing" checkbox.
Click the "Save" button in the
lower right corner. Your "Network Preferences" are now
configured.
6. Click the red button in the upper left corner
to close the window.
Now test the Connection:
1. Open "Internet Connection"
(The "Internet Connect" found
in the Applications folder on your hard disk. If you have two
Applications folders, choose the one with the
"A" on it.)
2. Click "Connect" button to ArdenNet
(Once you are connected, you can browse
the web using an internet browser such as Internet Explorer or
Netscape Navigator, send and receive email using Outlook
Netscape or Eudora )
3. When you are done, click on the
"Disconnect" button
This will log you out and hang up your
phone line.
You can create an alias (shortcut) for your
internet connection on your Desktop:
This way you can dial in to ArdenNet by clicking on an icon on
your desktop, rather than going into the Applications folder.
Double-click on the hard disk, then look for the
Applications folder.
Double-click on the Applications folder, then
look for the Internet Connect icon.
Single-click (don't double-click) on
"Internet Connect" to select the icon. Under the
"File" menu, choose "Make Alias".
Now your Mac will create a file called
"Internet Connect alias". Drag this alias to the desktop or
the dock. You can test-drive your ArdenNet internet by double clicking on this alias.
